My best friend's wedding

Hmmm,is it me or has the addiction to blogging started? It is only about a couple of hours since I wrote the first....ah well, can't be as unhealthy as my addiction to coffee or the need to clean my house in PD everytime I come back right?;-)

My dearest dearie and one of my oldest friends,Reshma, got married on February 1st 2008.It was a hectic weekend of travelling from KL to Ipoh and then to Seremban but it was SO MUCH FUN.

Let me start by telling you a little about Resh.I met her sometime in August 1996 when I was placed in a student house in SS2 as that's where our college was.The first thing that would strike you about her...?Her beautiful big puppy dog eyes:) I guess out of nervousness to make conversation I started asking her questions and she felt I was giving her the 3rd degree lol!We still laugh about it til today:) Anyway, somehow somewhere, a bond was formed. We went through some challenges..I was a tad immature and annoying back then I guess:) But she taught me a lot about patience and stuck with me through the years. One of the things I love most about her is that she is non-judgemental,patient and understanding. Our sense of humour is at the same level and the wacky side of me always comes out whenever I'm with her and Grass:)

I had heard so much about Devan and even spoke to him on the phone but would you believe it,I only finally met him in person on the wedding day itself at the temple!Resh looked stunning in all the sarees she wore. The photographer was extremely hyper but boy was he good!Mental note: Hire Jetfynn for future weddings ;-)

The ceremony was a small and simple affair.None of the typical Ceylonese big wedding hall jazz:) However the dinner at night did lead Grace(our other best friend) and myself to be confused. We arrived at this Chinese restaurant in Ipoh and we heard loud lion dance music going on and the restaurant was full of Chinese, hence we thought maybe we were at the wrong place. However,I did see Resh's and Devan's name at the stage backdrop and only when I saw Rohith,I knew we WEREN'T at the wrong place! What also got us to be confused was the sight of a chinese man in full punjabi gear, turban and everything!Anyhow,it was a good dinner with good food(sorry I can't say the same for the company of the people at our table lol!).

We drove down from Ipoh to Seremban on Saturday afternoon and arrived at night. We were greeted by a super delicious vegetarian home cooked meal and some SUPERB sugi wedding cake! All my strict diet regime went out the window this past weekend but it was a cause for celebration so what the hell!:D

On Sunday night,it was the wedding dinner in Seremban.Resh looked absolutely gorgeous in her very beaded and HEAVY saree:) Right from the night before her wedding,I saw the glow on her face...the glow of a bride to be:) She wore this beautiful pink saree on Friday morning and then changed into this greenish purplish saree and I must say I'm glad she steered away from the traditional bright red or orange colours. All through she was stunning and her eyes were lit up with a bright sparkle. Also glad to note the makeup was done very well and she did not look like a chinadoll:) Grace and I were assigned the task of telling the guests where they were to sit and boy that wasn't easy.Another thing I took note of: Even grown adults can be like small kids coz they wanna sit where their friend is sitting and got mighty upset when they were separated! We were also told to give an impromptu speech so I went up with Grace and said a few words.

As I had said in my speech, our lives were very different once we parted ways after college. But it came back to that one moment and also many before, where the 3 of us girls would meet and talk so much and it's as if the bond was never broken.People say that people change and especially during those crucial years of our 20's, you'd think we would have drifted but we didn't.My fondest memories of Resh was during the times when we would do some silly Spice Girls routine while dancing and also when I returned from London for good.I was depressed about being back but thank GOD she was around and just having her around helped a lot.

There's not much I know or can say about Devan except for the fact that he has the same similar sounding laugh that we girls have and he's got a good sense of humour.Resh could not have picked a better partner for sure!

Did it feel weird that one of my best friend's was getting married? It actually didn't.It did strike me that many of my friends have gotten married recently and I don't seem to be nearing that road anytime soon. But that does not bother me.As my good friend once pointed out to me,I would not be able to meet that special someone until I myself have found some balance and peace and harmony in my life...and I agree! My heart yearns for greener pastures and I do not want to have any regrets about not having fulfilled my dreams for the sake of settling down fast.Of course it would be perfect if I could also find that special someone without having to go through the rituals of dating which I am fedup of these days by the way.But at the same time,I am quite content with being where I stand and only have one focus right now...

Anyhow, let me state some little points about us girls:
Grace: She was actually one of my best friend's from Sunday school but I lost touch with her after I moved from KL to PD...I was 10 then....and we met again 8 years later coz' we were placed in the same student house!
Resh: A simple down to earth lovely gal from Seremban who I had met for the first time in 1996 and she has then been one of my pillars of support together with Grace.

The three of us have animal nicknames...mine being COW coz I cross the road like one without looking left or right...Resh's being GOAT coz her hair used to curl out and it looked like goat horns for awhile:) And Grace aka Grass is known as frog coz...well she hates frogs!:D

The three of us were very good girls...seriously!We only ever went out clubbing during college days like once. The only partying we ever did was at Orientation Nites!

Resh went off to the States and then to Canada and Grace headed to Australia whilst I went off to London. We once promised each other we HAVE to make it back for each other's wedding no matter where we are!

The three of us share a few things in common:
a) We love to act silly
b) We have very high pitched laughs mine being the highest and Grace's being the driest!
c) We have similar sense of humour
d)We love dressing up and share the same taste in makeup
e)They love shoes and so do I but I hate shopping haha
f) Our love for accessories especially earrings
g) The three of us are rather sentimental people and we used to give each other supportive cards of encouragement to pull us through the tough times whilst being in 3 different parts of the world
h) The love for coffee!

And the list goes on....I shall end by saying : Resh and Dev wishing you a lifetime of happiness, bliss and success and Devan: Welcome to the Tremendous Trio gang which I guess now will have to be known as the Fab Four;-)

Oh and a couple of other mental notes I made to myself: 1. I ain't gonna waste money on printing invitation cards...I'm just gonna call up my guests!
2. Only invite VERY close friends and some relatives...I've always said I wanted something simple anyway.

PS: My aunt(dad's sis) told me she wants to hold my wedding here in PD and I said NO...and when she asked where...what did I think of?Somewhere far far away for sure...;-)
